Bassam Fattouh, Hala Ajam and Fady Kataya: Together without Makeup!
Thursday July 7, 2011- Ana Zahra Magazine
Rarely do giants in the same field of expertise meet and sit to one single table; it is sometimes hard to convince them to do so. However, art and creativity always break boundaries and urge experts in the same field to unite for the sake of art itself, apart from competition, selfishness or arrogance.
We are not referring to Haifa Wehbe, Nawal Zoghbi and Nancy Ajram for instance. We are actually referring to the magic fingers behind the glamour of these stars on the big screen, the people who are the catalysts that make these stars unforgettable in the minds and the hearts of the fans all over the Arab world in particular and the whole world in general.
In a photograph that we at Ana Zahra received this week, we saw the three most famous and successful makeup artists in the Arab world together: Bassam Fattouh, Hala Ajam and Fady Kataya (with all due respect to all the other makeup artists). The artists met to celebrate the birthday of a common friend. Laughter filled the place in an environment characterized by art and beauty, contrary to what many people who try to promote competition and enmity between artists in the same domain may think.
In an ambiance of absolute peaceful friendship, these artists sat and shared a meal and a laugh. We called each one of them to get first-hand testimonies of how each of them views the others.
Bassam is currently busy with expanding and developing his makeup cosmetics line. He mentioned how proud he is of Hala’s makeup style and the way she mixes colors. He praised her ability to apply both a soft natural makeup and dark makeup (using the Banana technique for the eyes). Hala is famous for her work with fashionistas and beauty icons. As far as Fady is concerned, Bassam mentioned that his strategy in applying concealed and soft makeup is very special, besides his ability to apply corrective makeup as he is an expert on face structures. Fady’s makeup renders every woman a “Femme Fatale”.
Hala, who lately worked with the star Shirine Abdel Wahhab on her look for “Laha” magazine photoshoot, is preparing an important project that we will soon hear about! To her, Bassam is the stars’ makeup expert; he has passion for glamorous makeup (as he actually describes himself). She expresses her honest fondness of Fady’s work and describes him as highly innovative in his makeup creations.
Fady, who is currently working on a special makeup book project that will see the light towards the end of the year, admires Bassam’s make up technique. While Bassam prefers bold and strong
